I've had my four girls for about two weeks now and today the Silkie (she is about 25 weeks old) all of a sudden has her right nostril completely closed up, green and crusty. Tried cleaning it out with a warm wet wash rag but it's pretty solid. She's also a little stinky. After some searching on BYC I wonder if it's coryza (sp?). There are NO other issues with her though so was it maybe the stress from the move? Her eyes are fine, breathing is fine, she eats, drinks, etc... all fine. She does have runny poo sometimes and regular poo other times. I have her by herself in a pen in my garage right now. I'm very new to this and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

She might have chronic respiratory disease, its hard to say cuz I think these all have discharge of the nose, Coryza, Cholera, Newcastle disease, Infectious bronchitis, Infectious laryngotracheitis,
Fowl cholera

with respiraory, you would have the discharge and a stinky smell, I don't know about the others. If it is this you would need, Terramycin or Tylosin (Tylan), or erythromycin (Gallimycin)

Good luck!

Thanks!

My wife picked up some Tylan. Now I've got to do some math. It says to mix the bottle with one gallon and then mix the 1 gallon with 50 gallons... I'm needing maybe 1 gallon at a time...

Should I treat the other three birds or just keep them seperated and only treat them if they show symptoms? How long do we not use their eggs?

I forgot to tell youwet bedding/hay always carries with it a risk of fungus ... this can cause respiratory problems, cedar shavings can cause it too. (just in case this is an issue cuz you would just be treating agian down the road)

Ok, from what I read (any one correct me if I am wrong) the dosage for chickens is For a bantam hen give between 0.1-0.2.ml . For a larger fowl give between 0.2-0.3 just depends on its weight for 5 days

If it was me I would treat all the birds.

And I think it is about 2 weeks after treatment you can eat the eggs again.

I would also do this too, encourage eating with high protein rations, and a vitamin E supplement I would also give poultry vitamins or Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins Enfamil brand, NO IRON formula, 2 drops on beak once a day for 3 days, then 1 drop for 3 days

I hopes this helps you and any one if I am wrong please tell me!
