Green Egger Naked Neck Thread

Pics
Nothing much new to report. I do have two GENN pullets from my Nee Years hatch but both have single combs, so I think I'm going to pass these on to my grandson who is wanting some Naked Necks.

I do have a pea combed rooster from the same mating I think I'm going to hold onto for the time being. I think I test mate him when he's old enough to some Green Egger hens.

I'll try to get a picture of him tomorrow.

I had 6/7 eggs hatch gen2s. 2 with the naked neck the other four with a normal fuzzy. The OH had 3 more with naked necks and I think 5 with a normal neck. ..

They were green, blue and light brown/ cream colored eggs.

Another dozen I set on the 23 and another 2 dozen I set last night.

Here soon I'll be saddle feathers deep in NNEE .

I hope you can see these pictures. I'm not a very good picture taker.
Here I'm showing an order of mama and chick.

1). Original cross of Easter Egger and Naked Neck. I first done this cross about 3 years ago and this is the only hen I had left from that cross. She lays an almost Olive colored egg. I call her a Salmon-Buff color. Her mother would have been 1 of 2 Buff Columbian Naked Neck hens that I had.

2). Next is her daughter: she was hatched out April of 2014. I'm told that she is Dominant White split to Wheaten. She lays a green egg. My first original Green Egger Naked Neck.

This is her daddy my former Salmon Naked Neck.

3). This is her chick, hoping it is a pullet. Hoping the green egg continues, no sign of the pea comb. Fingers crossed though. Daddy is a Black Jersey Giant.

Here is a picture of my current Green Egger Naked Neck rooster from a hatch from April 2014.

I currently have him penned with three hens two Easter Egger and one Naked Neck. Going to hatch some babies this fall and the pullets from there will go to this cockerel provided he lives long enough. No one know what tomorrow holds.

He does have a pea comb. His two sisters didn't get the pea comb. They are going to my grandson.

He is a half brother to the first GENN rooster above.
This is their dad

Well folks I've had to come to some hard on my chicken.

I've been out if a job since the last part iof January. The future is not looking to great right now either. So, I'm going to have to cut back on my flock. It's been a hard decision to make.

This project is going to have to go. I really hate for it to be but there is not many showing interest in these from folks around here.

I just took two of these hens to my grandson, he's only 5 but said he wanted some of the redneck chickens( haha), he mixed up that and Naked neck. So should things get any better then I can get some eggs from him to get started again.

I'm going to get down to only my Naked Necks and start trying to breed them to the SOP. As close as possible but maybe the color. I'm keeping 5 hens lines of what I have and the baby Aloha NN and start a line from them.

All of my Easter Eggers will stay until close to winter so I can have a few eggs for eating until I get some pullets up to laying age.

draye,
I'm sorry you have been forced to make this hard decision. Being out of work is a frightening situation.
You have been in my prayers and hopefully, things will turn around for you.
Blessings
Jo

Thanks for your prayers. When things start looking good again I'm going to try to make another go of it. I think I'll use better stock the next go around.

I think I've figured out a way to keep this going. But I think some of the blue egg gene will be getting lost.

I'm going to find out pretty soon I guess I'm going to try to collect a few eggs in about a week to set.

Ok, I have been lurking for a little while now.

I have three sets of eggs hatched from the same parent flock.

Aracona rooster over NN/turken hens.. (And due to chicken math a seabright may also be involved)

The ofspring are showing about 40% NN.

If the ofspring of these that do not show the naked neck are bred back amongst themselves can I expect 50% NN chicks?

Also, has anyone seen chicks hatch with little black bumps or nodules on the follicals of the down?? If so can you share any information about this?

In regards to the black bumps, one of the chicks was a little a stickey and as I was cleaning him up a bit I noticed that his down came out increadibly easily with no sign of stress on the chick.
While they were fresh out of the egg they looked hairy rather than wet downy.

Inregard to the chicks that are naked necked bred NN to NN and you will get about half and half.

NN to the non-NN will result in about 1/4 NN.

Non-NN to non-NN will result I. No NN. If they don't show th NN then they don't carry it.

As far a modules go on chicks I can't imagine what you are taking about. I've never seen anything like that. Maybe someone will come along and have a answer for you.
