Well update on the feed. The love the feed i made for them except the lentils they hate it and will leave it everyday and i everyday have to collect what they have left. Could there be any reason as to why they do it? could it be because the weather is hot?
And can i ask does the age of the chicken has any effect on the egg size?
I mean the eggs are very small sized, some of them are so small that it seems they are of quails hehe
Some chickens just don't like certain grains. You can swap the lentils with more field peas, but I rewrote a recipe below with soybeans and flax as you had requested (sorry I was late). Certain chicken breeds lay small eggs, but there is a chance that since they are getting a more balanced feed that egg size and egg laying frequency will improve. Younger chickens tend to lay smaller eggs as well.
Here's your recipe to include soy and flax seed, and I removed the lentils. Try to get smaller soy beans if at all possible, or crack them into smaller pieces. If the birds don't like them let me know and I'll rewrite the recipe again. Soy is high in fat for a legume, so I had to lower the amount of sunflower seeds and flax.
Recipe is 30 pounds of feed, roughly 16.76% protein and 4.7% fat.
3 pounds barley
2 pounds corn
1/4 pound flax seed
4 pounds millet
2 pounds oats
10 pounds peas
3 pounds soybeans
1/4 pound black oil sunflower seeds
5.5 pounds spring wheat
Give them to mustard seed cake as a treat, and that's okay! I think it's similar to mealworms which are high in protein and fat, but I give my girls a handful a few times a week, especially in the winter when they don't have access to as many insects and bugs. I also give my birds bits of watermelon, cantaloupe, berries, leafy greens like kale, beet tops, and lettuce. Watermelon is especially good in the summer when it's hot and they need to stay hydrated.
