Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Just think: less bugs come summer. And the Chilton county farmers say it's going to be a good year for peaches. Last year was the first year for my Belle of Georgia peach tree to carry decently... so maybe I will be drowing in peaches this summer. Might have to preserve them in brandy.. oh darn!

I now understand, plant when you can work the ground, Virginia is enjoying a day of above freezing. Then back to cold. cold cold.
A coworker is giving up her garden, works full time 3 yo son and another due in March, so she gave me her seeds, she had some of everything, so at least I can plan!
The weather geeks now are saying Richmond might get hit with the next snow. Can I refuse delivery? So very very done with it. I usually get the winter blahs late Feb, but they have hit hard already!

I keep going through my box of seeds and staring at the calendar, seeing if it's time to start things yet

I'm gonna need a WAY bigger garden for all the stuff I've got planned. Might send dear hubby out in the cold and make him build me another raised bed

I've got 3 kinds of tomatoes plus tomatillos planned. Like.... 7 or 8 kinds of peppers.... 3 kinds of squash and plenty more. Let's not even start about my huge stack of herb seed. Herbs are going to go elsewhere, but this is where the peppers and tomatoes are likely going to end up in. Just gotta swap sides, as the tomatoes were on one end last year.

Now, now. Imagine what our ancestors went through. You plant or don't eat. Just do what you can and leave the rest.

This is why we plan our gardens. I get it ready in the fall. Even in winter I can lay cardboard down on the snow. Then when spring comes there are not weeds. I lay cardboard when I go out to the chickens.

You have to start you seeds indoors, unless you plan to buy plants.

I'm in NY so I've some time before I can plant. Perhaps May first or later.

I know I have it easy, cleaning stalls at my barn is really not that bad. Well it is, but only when it is brutal cold. :/ my planning is legendary in my family, they never ever tell me I am overextending.:D
I am also planning a new coop, the present one is fine except one of the supports is on a sink hole, and is now on boards and a jack. I will be busy busy once it is warm enough to play.

Where are you located. Have you considered a hoop? I know some places they wouldn't work due to predators such as bears, but they are cheap and easy to build.

They have a covered run, formerly a dog pen, i like the idea of a hoop, but, too many things that want chicken for dinner! Planning things is one of my winter therapies. Goodness knows I need as much as I can get! A branch came down today and took down one of my tarp sides, they really need wind blocks. They did manage to dig in the garden a little this morning.

Good morning, how are all the Southeners out there doing with the storm. I hope everyone is OK. Please stay home if you can. Make sure you put a blanket in the car just in case you get stuck and need to stay warm.
My brother is in Charleston SC . I haven't heard from him yet. He hasn't lived in NY for almost 50 years so I don't want him doing anything crazy.
Be Safe everyone...
