Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Can you see the middle picture. These are my tomatoes of a few years ago. I use #10 cans with the tops and bottoms cut out. I push it into the soil a couple of inches. Then as I go around the garden waterering I fill each can and it keeps the water on the plant and each gets at least a half gallon of water I think. I also do this with Peppers, but you can do it with any veggie plant that it will work with.

Thank you! I will give that a go!

With the crazy storm that moved through here last night (hail and everything) I don't have to water the garden today. Thank goodness everything was staked nice and tight .Have to harvest Kale today. So much salad I'm going to turn into a head of lettuce. My beans are coming in like crazy also. Happy Gardening......

Queen Chick where is here?

I water nearly every day since I do it quick and perhaps for some beds the water doesn't go down very far. It's hot here and dry. Which is what I prayed for.

I saw a frog in the garden yesterday and gave him some water poor thing. The nearest water is a ways away. Not sure why he was in the garden.

Now I did see a big snake when I uncovered one bed that had be covered all last year. I had laid cardboard down and then covered it with black plastic. When I pulled up the plastic here was the snake and a mouse. I suspect the snake was waiting to eat the mouse. The mouse ran off but the snake had to be chased and he was not happy. He came back the next day and only left after being sprayed with the hose a few times. I prefer not to kill anything if I can help it.

I live on Long Island NY; Its been hot here also but strong thunder storms have been coming through almost every other day. The skies just open up.

I had a garter snake living in my one garden for a number of years. Haven't seen it in a while though.I don't kill anything either I even carry bugs out of the house.

I have never really planted cucumbers before (I know weird)and I have to say that they are doing great.

We have had some crazy weather. Glad I have power!
I have only been watering every few days, but I water deep, either soaker hose or push the hose under the mulch.Thick thick mulch.
I was doing some snipping on my 'maters last week, the first reallllly hot day, and put my hand on the soaker hose. NOT, just a little black snake, it just looked at me like 'lady I am trying to stay cool, do you mind?' After the initial gasp (o.k. it might have been a shriek) I just left him there, a perfectly good predator control for free. Why chase them off? Black snakes keep other snakes away, and mice, & chipmunks.
I hate copperheads with a fiery passion, so having blackie around is a GOOD thing.

There's only one kind of snake here. The Aaaeeeeeeeeeeeeee! snake. cuz that's what I scream when I see one. Also related to the Aaaeeeeeeeee spider.

It's been so hot here , my broody hatched her eggs in 14 days.

I harvested most of my garlic. I have to say I am impressed with myself. now If Icould only get pics of it on here. My son and husband got me a mew iPad over the weekend and I'm still trying to figure it out.Everything else is doing real nice as well.

Queen - I am about to do the same. I water it but it is so dry here it's no use. I will try to plant some beans or lettuce or something that grows quick in it's place. I have about five beds. It looks as though the wild berries will be a bust since there is just no rain in the forcast.

The drainage on my raised beds is a bit to much I think. Even the beans looked dry and I water every nearly day but didn't yesterday and should have. I am however hoping the heat takes us into September and I can get lots of tomatoes and squash.

(how can I lock the font size?)

I have got to pick berries and must get there but have my DD and hers here from TX and they've no interest in doing it.

Queen how big is your garlic? Got pics?
