Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Well I put in my first seed/plant order for the year. Ordered a few weird things, I always do.
Burgundy okra
Red corn
Purple tomatillo
And purple and white striped potatoes
I really need another piece of property, preferredly off long island. Or I could really drive my neighbors crazy and rototill the whole front yard and put in a garden.
I don't ever use my front yard for anything and it gets beautiful sunshine all day.i think I am talking myself into it.
Stay safe and warm

I like to try new things too. I do grow the usual but like more heritage varieties too.

Went and uncovered some parsely for tonights dinner. Deep under the snow but still nice and dark. I'll have to build some cold frame tents next fall.

I tried the burgandy okra this past year it did not do well for me, but neither did the regular okra.

I also tried the purple tomatillos this past year the plants did great, huge and loaded w/ fruit, but it did not ripen soon enough, I would suggest starting it as early as you can.

itching but can only scratch via catalogue shopping!!! a few coupons that i will be a FOOL if i don't take advantage of ! and this is always the time of year i kick myself for not planting more, or any, bulbs last fall! this is a great thread, i wanted to mark, for canning considerations too... a happy day to all!

what can i plant inside next winter to bring out to the ladies on these snow days. anything? or, i might be better off seeing if anyplace local gets rid of their old produce/dumpster diving!

Some things you can plant for the birds if you live in the cold areas are, Swiss chard, spinach, lettuce and parsley. If you cover them with some plastic they'll be green right through the winter even if they get covered with snow.

I just recently went out and unburied some parsley for dinner. I had to dig down a bit but it was nice and green. I hadn't put it under plastic but even so it was nice and fresh just being buried under the snow.

oh, rancher hicks, what great advice! that is awesome... i am definitely going to add a brand new garden plan to my yard! the mint and stevia in my yard has already started new growth at the base :) and the birds are singing new songs :) my chickens have never met spring.... boy, are they going to be some happy hens!!!

Has anyone here grown any sundews? i bought some time ago and they already have some young ones and hundreds of seeds from flowering! They are really fun to grow and much easier than most other carnivorous plants! I also have a nepenthes which doesn't look very good at the moment!

Grw both those when my son was young. Hrs 25 now. No wonder he's a horror writer.....

Got 80 feet of raspberries moved yesterday and today, another 20 to go maybe I'll get that finished up on Friday.

I'm also thinking about trying to root some forsythia. I have about a 35 foot length of fence I think they would work well on.

sundews...oooooo. photos photos photos!

i have a has anyone here question too... paw paw trees.

every year i think i am going to find a pair cheaper or bigger or something, and i don't. i refuse to let that happen this year so i am going to buy TWO PAIR!
so, i wonder if anyone has any personal paw paw planting advice (chicken, or not, related) i am also going to plant some kiwi and some fruit trees for chickens. no berries for me, as i am afraid of bears!!!!

AND i have a chicken plant q., butterfly bushes supposedly chickens don't like? but my ladies sure did! but they were young and curious, and there were seeds too.
can chickens gorge themselves on seeds??? it freaked me out when i first saw them gulping down those giant pumpkin seeds!!!
