Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I have purple mustard, chard, kale, snap pea, radish, cauliflower, broccoli, arugula, beets, kolerabi, etc. The chickens love the broccoli. I'm thinking of planting extra cucumber for them this summer. They like kale and arugula also.

I have to order my seeds soon for this spring. I got a gift certificate for Burpee and have that spent and more in what I want to order! I also have a list for other seed companies.

Hear Ye, hear Ye.

I'm sending another order out but I wanted to tell you folks that Comstock , Ferre & Co. have a $2.50 shipping fee on all orders.

Johnny - $3.95/ 0.01 - 10.00, 10.00-30.00/$6.95 Territorial Seed Co. $7.50 on all orders. Totally Tomatoes up to $24.95 is 4.95 , $25.00 and up 5.95 Baker Creek is $3.50 for all orders.

Just thought you might like to know the shipping costs of some of the catalogs. I just did a quick glance.

Some questions.

What is your best squash other than the usual Acorn? I tried Blue Hubbard last year and it did ok but not great. And Acorn too. I'm going to try Galeuz d' Eysines this year.

What is your favorite corn?

Do you grow Okra and how is that to grow and store?

Do you do "cold storage" and have a "root cellar"?

I've given up on corn.

I had huge success this year w/ patty pan (scalopini) I am going to try Tatume this coming year.

Okra grew like crazy tried to take over the world I was picking it by the 5 gallon bucket during the peak. I planted clemson spineless, I dusted it in cornmeal and froze it, and I also sliced it coated it in spicy cajun seasonings and dehydrated it, both ways turned out good.

I do not have root cellar or any cool storage options, I mostly freeze or dehydrate, I want to learn to can.

The seed catalogs has started arriving here, and I have been reading them and gaining ideas! I'm a landscaper by trade and this warm winter with no snow or work has given me lots of free time to work out in the yard and plan things out. Think I have some really good ideas for the coming season!

Great day in the garden here!

Got all 3 new bareroot roses planted and moved 2 that have not been doing well to new better locations.

Started spreading the composted horse manure we picked up the other day.

And, the neighbor who is remodeling dropped off a bunch of used bricks for a wandering garden path I am working on.

My mom would LOVE your composted gold.

I just need an excuse for the drive (guessing about 8 hours and 400 and some odd miles)

a quick cell phone shot

the pvc pipe sections we use to start seeds/seedlings. Right now most of them have wildflower seeds that are starting, using the rings keeps the seeds in one place, the varmits seem to skip too and make it easy to remember where NOT to step!

The daffs are up, those are self sown calendulas, of course the roses (we just stripped off the leaves in preparation to prune-they were running wild for a long time and I just started training up a couple of months ago, and of course our garden Hoe House and green house in the background. The new roses are in the paper bags right now. I have lots to work on in that are tomorrow

I've been busy the last few days with my seedlings. I sprout everything, in a germination box for heat, then transfer into pots as they come up. Once in pots, they go under grow lights. So far I have 60 tomatoes, and 35 peppers up. I also have 75 cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli up.

Very nice, ozark_chickies!!!

I need to get another cold frame put together so I can get some of my seeds started. Or I may just winter-sow them in 2 liter soda bottles. Decisions, decisions...
