Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

By the way, my chickens and goats eat it.

I have found that many plants die not because chickens eat them but because they "scratch" them out of the ground. Mine will not touch my Lemon Balm nor Cabbage. Braccias, Brocoli members are not good for chickens. I think they pretty much know what not to eat.

I recently fed mine some cooked Sweet Potatoes and I think it disagreed with them as I got one egg from my Dels and I think they're the ones that got the SP's. They are my best layers.

on another Forum for gardening my Screen name is Dr.Greenthumb...lol I am very much looking forward to spring. 3 Months ago I planted 172 cloves of garlic and I am not so patiently waiting for the snow to melt so they can start to pop the soil.

Plus I have a organic garden that's about 50x25 that we plant a lot of veggies. Here's a few random garden pics from last year, I have tons. Last pic everythig you see came from the garden that morning and went into a soup for dinner.

Absolutely beautiful What can you suggest for growing Carrots. Mine never come out well. Do I need to space wider and can I use "play sand" in the beds to make it more penetrable? My radishes are the same way. Skinny and no good.

They like loose well draining soil so they can put down a tap root easily,rasied beds will help also.You can add some sand but good organic compost will really help. My favorite carrots are Mokum and Rainbow. Mokum is very early and great for long thin carrots. Rainbow grows large and has an array of different colors. If you can get it buy pelleted carrot seed it makes it much easier to plant. I plant about 2-3in apart in rows that about 12-16in apart

My chickens ate my leftover broccoli plants, lol. They left them alone until about a week ago. They really liked my wild mint, too. My goats, they eat everything. I am buying deer fencing this year to keep them all out of my garden, LOL. They really loved eating all of our crookneck squash and tomatoes!!!

I want to plant Atomic carrots this year. They're supposed to be really high in lycopene.

We have clay soil so I have to really loosen it up with organic matter. Gotta love all that manure and broken down bedding, lol.

I've been lucky the past couple years, the tomato, peppers, squash, did pretty well. The largest problem I encountered last year were the pesky rabbits and loose cats. I lost 2 rounds of cool season veggies to the rabbits. One of which must have a turbo on him, because he did a crap load of damage in the middle of the day in just under 20 minutes time while I was inside making a sandwhich.

I start seed next month indoors. You can also order leek plants. The jars are pickled carrots and onions from my garden.

I'm late to the conversation... but I have the itchy green thumb too! We moved into this house in August so we are starting over with bare dirt. In the fall we started digging two smaller spots and added manure and compost and leaves and just left them. Now it is spring, I am really getting restless. We dug a 5x20' spot on Saturday, dug an herb bed on Sunday, and yesterday dug another 5x20' spot. Next we are rebuilding our chicken coop (to keep the chickens out of the garden), and then digging more beds around the coop.

I have some lettuce seeds already started inside. Can not wait to plant them!
