Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I planted 5 types of garlic last fall and it is all up about 4inches. I have never planted it before and I can't wait. I've also been pulling carrots that I planted last fall. I have really go luck with the short ones. My husband thinks I am so strange when I get excited about these things

I seriously need winter to visit! We are totally behind on getting the garden ready and planting considering it was well over 80 degrees here today! Things I thought I would have time to work on are suddenly a priority. We need to get seeds plants too.

But for now, we got a drip system in for the yard around the house, most of the roses got a nice layer of mulch today and the fresh weeds from the drip system got pulled.

We are in a similar boat, I told my husband today it is sad to already be behind in the garden in Feb (I know its March now but I was even more behind last week)

Come up here and enjoy our winter, right now it's 9 degrees and the garden is under a foot of snow. Next week I will start my seeds in the basement, I use my homemade styrofoam incubator as a heat source and start my seeds in it.

The catalogs came a while ago... and I bought a whole LOT of seeds from them.

Now I just have to start my peppers and tomatoes and wait for last frost in about a month. Which cant come soon enough.

Last of my butter lettuce feed to chickens this morning, squash and butterbeans up, harvested a few beets. Have 3 pints of beets in canner and 1 1/2 quarts pickled beets (and eggs, of course) in the fridge.

Have excess tomatoes, peppers, dill, oregano, thyme and cleomes i greenhouse that I need to find a home.

I can't wait for it to finally stay warm outside. It seems like we get 3-4 good warmer (52-64*) days then it drops to mid 40's for about 3-5 days. Soil is still too cold but hopefully the pattern changes soon! My greenhouse is beginning to get full and I'm getting excited! I have tilled the soil a couple times and its just about ready to roll. Just need the weather to stay warmer. This growing season should be a great one!

I spent all day in the garden yesterday, breaking every once in a while to check on my ducklings and chicks :) .I planted two long rows of potatoes, and started transplanting some of the hardier things to get them out of the greenhouse. Over night something (I think rabbit.) ate half of the snow pea plants, that I put in :( .

I am glad I am behind in the garden, the wind is howling and the temps will be in the mid 30's tonight.

But I wanted rain, not cold and windy!
