Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

So that is what those blue pumpkins are called! I bought one last fall and saved the seeds out of it. (I think I called it a blue Moon)

I always laugh when I hear those words of caution, don't plant a lot of zucchini... Mom loves zucchini and was worried I did not leave enough space. I figure to have at least one row 20 feet long of just zucchini! And a rows split 10' and 10' in crooknecks and patty pans. I picked a different spot for pumpkins and one for winter squash just so there would be plenty of zucchini room. She made sure we added lots of our compost to that section so she would get enough...lol (I had to stop her from buying seedlings for squash)

She pops the extras in the freezer to use to make a "cream" of zucchini soup and I use a serrated grater to make my own fast "squash spaghetti"

In the past I had put seeds on a wet paper towel, put them in a ziplock bag and put them on top of the cable box under the tv where it was nice and warm.and waited for them to sprout. Now the stand for the tv is gone cause we got a flat screen and it doesn't need a cabinate and my heat source is gone also.I converted one of my cooler bators to a seed starter on saturday and looked in at them on monday and some of the flowers have already sprouted. This was just a test because later this week I will start my tomato and cucumber seeds in the bator. It works good. I tried this last year after a failed hatch of chicken eggs and had great success. The pic isn't very good but you can see what I have the seeds in, kinda like a mini green house, the temp is at 80 humidity is about 100% with all the potting soil in there, and I water them from the bottom.

I have really good luck with carnival squash It's a nice winter squash. Well The peas are soaking for planting in the morning. and I'm going to put in my shallots and red onions also. My girls are all set for spring; The coop my friend built me has a window box so I planted pansies for them this afternoon. I plant them and they want to rip them out. I put marigold in it for the summer; the things we do for our chickens.

I had an awesome summer squash year last year, my zuchs and pattypans went wild especially the pattypans, but the yellow crook neck do very poorly.

But I never get more then one or two winter squash per vine.

I have most of my cool weather crops in, just a few more plantings of radish, and today I found volunteer sunflowers coming up.Wow it won't be long before I can plant my corn :/ . I feel like I'm behind, when it is really the crazy weather being too warm.I also noticed that my sun-chokes are starting to sprout, and I really need to thin them out. Does anyone know if they are safe for chickens to eat?

Well I put in my peas and shallots today.I also noticed my sun chokes peaking out of the ground along with the horseradish. My chickens were pretty upset that I was getting to do all the digging in the dirt and they had to watch from outside the fence.

I planted 100 strawberry plants yesterday. Cleaned out the raspberry canes. Cut down all the cedar trees growing near my new apple trees. Today planted 2 paw paw, 3 chestnuts, 3 hazelnuts, 2 figs, 12 western ground cherries. I have 6 blueberries, 4 grapes and 5 kiwi that I can't decide where I'm going to put them.

Was 80 degrees today, I shouldn't be sweating like this in March!!!

It was 70+ in long island NY yesterday. I have several blueberries in large containers it seems to keep the ph in check a little better. I planted one of those new lemonade variety's last year. I can't wait to see what they look and taste like.I wish I had the kind of property your talking about to be able to plant all that. Gook luck Carol
