Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

It's not so much a matter of water as the heat itself, the flower pollen can not fertilize the flower (happens w/ tomatoes in the heat too) I think the threshold is around 90 in the day and 70 overnight it destroys the pollen.

hi Kass The babies are crazy....I'm loving them

Hi they must be getting pretty big by now. Can you tell yet how many mini me's to Oreo you have? lol

they got a little color. I just posted pics yesterday on Southern ny, Dutchess county and below thread of the sitting all over the patio furniture The black and white one better be a girl or I will cry. check them out.To keep this post street legal, I'm not getting the peppers I had last year either except this one long red variety that a friend gave me. don' t know what they are, but the plants are loaded. the plants are also very compact and low to the ground. carol Thanks again for the babies......

Yes, it's the heat, not any lack of water. Above a certain temperature they simply will not pollinate no matter how hydrated they are. They also will stop making blooms.

Oh, now I know the can method! Just this year I've noticed a lot of gardens with plants planted in the old fashion clay drainage tiles! Now I get it. Incidentally, all the plants in the tiles look great.
And I would never ask anyone to "stop" with the advice or gardening conversation. None of my friends around here are gardeners. None of my friends are the gardening "type". They tend to feel sorry for me when I go on about my garden, pigeons or layers lol!
If I get time after work, I'm going to till up part of the garden that is finished and start again!

My four kids and I. I had Ronald Reagan hair that day (this Father's Day). Not sure what was up with that.

Adorable children. I know what you mean about your friends not being into gardening that's how most of my friends are, and then when I got into chickens I think they really want to commit me.

you go baby
great Bob Marley shirt

I tell people I was born to dig in the dirt. When I first moved to Long Island I swear people looked at me as if I had three heads when I talked about gardening, chickens etc.(I think they still do)
makes me feel good though when the guy that owns the nursery up the block sends people to my house to see how things will grow out.

you always have us to talk to.

if it were up to my husband our property would be green painted cement.

My wife calls our living room "Jumanji" because I have so many house plants. I was away for a month last winter and left her specific instructions about watering etc. I came home to the Gobi desert. I stop just short of accusing her of murder lol.

Al, my older brothers were into pigeons. Back in the 50's.

Here' my garden.

Okra, some in cans. I didn't have enough.

Peppers

Cherokee tomatoes.

Cukes You can see the crack in the ground due to it being so dry.

I've since weeded this bed but you can see the cans around the base of the plant.

Amish paste tomatoes. Four plants in a 4X4 bed.

The new hoop coop.

Lavender Some beds are deeper than other due to using whatever size cull 2x 's HD has. If I'm lucky I can get some 2x12's. If I don't have enough of a size I just save it until next time.

I had a California Bay tree (~6ft) That my friend swears my husband killed by peeing in it.You can't imagine how I had to get it in and out of the house every summer. She kept telling me that any time I wanted to get rid of it any of her clients out in the Hamptons would pay a premium for it. I should have taken the money and ran with it.It started out as a twig. He hates plants in the house.HATESthem.
