Greeting from your new German member!

Really, I'm an American living in Germany.
I was raised on a large farm in NW Ohio and we had chickens, normally between 75 to 100 of them. Once we bought a neighboring farmers chickens and there were over 300 birds that week. Most of them we sold off and well, we ate a lot of chicken for a few months.

Now, after retiring from the US Army, I find myself residing here in Bavaria, Germany with my wife and three children. The kids (16, 12 and 6) were joking about raising chickens like the priest from our church. I said, "why not?" and my wife rolled her eyes and stated that her grandmother had chickens in the backyard.

And believe it or not, this site appeared at the top of my Google search. So here I am researching, before we do something this wild!
My grandma had chickens in her backyard too, and I think that's where my chicken love began. Her's were definitely not named, held and bathed like I do with mine but she cherished them just as much. She had a coop with chickens and doves. Your kids are perfect ages to care for their new pets!

Welcome!! We just got a new member from Hamburg last night! He is also researching prior to buying any chickens.
Oh? I guess I need to find this new member and we can learn together! Thanks for the tip! Researching is the best thing before jumping into a new adventure!

He is @axBoe

I agree research is important before you jump into a new hobby. I didn't research in depth and am still making mistakes!

Learning from our mistakes only makes us better! I learned the hard way in the Army l:D

when i was graduating high school i considered joining the Air Force but got married instead. USAF probably would have been a mistake but the marriage definitely was. Live and learn, right?
