Howdy chicken fans. I've had chickens for around 10 years, starting in IL, then when I moved to NC for 3 years, and now in north central Massachusetts. I usually have around 20 hens and one rooster (my neighbors dont mind, but im also on 2 acres), but this year I decided to try out a little incubator I bought, and hatched my own attempts at hybrids, crossing a Rhode Island Red (RIR) rooster and a black Australorp rooster with Barred Rock (BR) hens and Brown Leghorn (BL) hens. I have about fifteen 1.5 year olds. My oldest group of "my own hatching hybrids" is about 6 months old, the youngest are 2 months old. I also have a few purebred pullets bought at Tractor Supply. Total of the younger birds is about 40. Quite a few may be roosters. I may be wanting to place some roos and 1.5 year old hens soon. I have 6 RIRs, 3 Speckled Sussex, 5 Black Australorps, 9 mystery birds (don't know what they are), 1 buff orphington (bought her as a potential future broody hen), 6 black sexlinks, 16 black birds (father is Australorp and mother is either BL or BR), 2 BRs, 2 BLs, 2 BL x RIR crosses, and about 10 Isa Browns. I love my black Australorp rooster, never aggressive to me, treats the ladies nice, alerts well, and have never had a predator or hawk peoblem under his watch. I also have a 3nd young Australorp rooster and a RIR roo. It's fun hatching your own, but hard to patiently wait til they grow up to see what they'll be like.

I also have Nigerian Dwarf goats, a barn cat, and 2 working line German Shepherd Dogs. I'm currently training my 1 year old GSD for a schutzhund title, and intend to breed her next year (Littlewood Shepherds). I have a coop, and a 4 stall barn, 2 of the stalls are devoted to chickens! I love to garden, hunt for mushrooms, go to garage sales, and train my dogs. I'm still in the process of fencing my entire property. I work part-time at Tractor Supply Company (TSC). I'm interested in homesteading subjects. I love how big and informative this group is, love seeing other peoples' setups, and getting answers to chicken questions. A friend back in IL mentioned this group as a good resource, so I thought it was about time to join! Hope to chat with many of you soon, thanks for welcoming me!
