Hello there everyone! I am no stranger to Backyard Chickens, as I had an account years ago after being introduced by a friend of mine who used to discuss geese, ducks, and goats here! I live with my husband in Alabama, and we are going back to our roots and living the homestead life similar to the way our grandparents did. My husband does minor blacksmith work, mills our own lumber from trees he cuts, and is the all around perfect handy man! I have started to learn more about gardening and cooking with fresh meat and veggies, sell arts & crafts in the area, and am currently making my own fence posts with lumber from the land to start building a chicken/rabbit enclosure. Our ultimate goal is to be self-sufficient and living off of what we grow and hunt ourselves. Animal Goal: chickens, rabbits, to raise and train an oxen for plowing/hauling, and goats. No current animals other than dogs at the moment! I am interested in learning more about rabbits and cattle (previous experience with chickens, goats, and horses growing up). My goal is to raise animals for meat/eggs/milk/sale/working purposes. I can't wait to share stories as we begin our little homestead life!
