Hello,
I am new to this forum. I have had a very small flock of hens (no roos) in the middle of a neighborhood w/ a tough HOA & laws against poultry....opps! My neighbors are cool, eggs whenever they want keep them quite. I started alittle over a year ago w/ 4 birds 1 rhode island red (josephine), 1 barred plymoth rock (mini), 1 black sex link (emma), & 1 americana (sara). I have recently added 3 more girls 1 8 month old buff orphington (cheyann), & 2 old english bantamn (thelma & louise). havent been to good since new girls have arrived (but thats on chicken behavior, check it out if you think you can help). I got the idea for hens to show my childeren what I got to experience as a child w/ my grandfather. So I visited the local feed stores during spring chicken time, built a modest coop (just below the fence line) in the backyard & have been in love w/ my girls ever since. They were cuddled as chicks & follow me around everywhere. I get about 1 dozen eggs every 3-4 days. What a pet, one that gives back. My dog has yet to lay me something I can eat...LOL. I have found quite a few people in the more rural areas around me that have small backyard flocks like myself. I envy all of you large land owners, but anyway it's a great hobby as long as I don't get caught. I have insured that my girls will be well taken care of if I do. I found this sight trying to figure out how to make my girls get along w/ each other. So I hope to enjoy this as much as I see ya'll do.

Welcome to the unofficial S.C.S. (Stealth Coop Society). I have an urban coop with neighbors all around. My defense, should I ever have to, is that my coop has NO odor, my hens don't leave poop bombs in anyone's yard, they don't bark all night, and they are PETS not farm animals. Similar to rabbits... which are kept in a coop and no one complains about them. No problems so far and I am very careful who knows I have them. You never know who might have a prejudice and call code enforcement anonymously. Paranoid? maybe, but I love my 8 Silkies and I protect them by keeping them secret. You can't un-tell something once it's out.

Good luck to you. Anyone who loves their chickens like you do is a friend of mine!

I am in the same situation you are, I have 25 chickens (11 are roosters.) and 11 chicks plus quail living in the city with a police officer right next door lol.
