Hi! I'm originally from Florida but have been living in Belgium for a LONG time now....long enough to meet my husband, settle down, have two grown sons and the house mortgage almost paid off!!!!!

I'm a Pilates instructor and am opening my own studio (Chalet actually) in my backyard/garden...hence the name 'chalet girl'

I want to get two hens for the back yard. DH has been against it but has finally accepted that it's something I want to try. I think he will get on board with it when he sees how little time they actually take and how entertaining they will be in the garden when they are allowed out to stretch their legs each day.

I've got loads of questions but will have a wander around the forum first....This place has already helped me with some of my queries and I'm sure most of my answers are posted here already.

I'm looking forward to learning and hopefully I'll be able to offer help once I get the girls settled in and learn a bit about keeping them happy.

It's nice to be here!

You can start by doing some reading in our learning center here on BYC for lots of great reads on all the aspects of keeping poultry....

Good luck with this new adventure! I hope you can get your chicks soon. And you know where to find us if you have any more questions! Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You will be glad you tried chicken keeping, and I am sure your hubby will be won over with the fresh eggs!

Hi all! Thanks for the warm welcome! I've been making the rounds here and have already picked up so much info!

I'm going to have a look at a coop with a run tomorrow. It's new...I just found the exact same coop for sale 2nd hand and it looks great after two years of use. I'll fork out for a new one though.

Hubby still isn't happy about my decision but I'm sure he will enjoy watching them in the garden (backyard) and eating eggs from contented hens. The neighbor across the road has volunteered to look after them when we are away and asked if her children could come see them once they settle in!

The folks two and three houses away have chickens and pheasants etc. so I'm sure I won't have a problem finding chicken sitters and returning the favor!

YAY!
