Welcome Donna; always glad to have new blood.
Sounds like a nice place you have there, with a lot of potential. Any utilities on it yet?
This site is chock full of helpful folks; some newbies such as yourself, some with a lifetime of experience, and everything in between. Don't be timid about asking questions.

Thanks for the welcome! From you and everyone who was kind enough to reply. :hugs

The farm hasn’t really been used for much since I was 5 or 6 years old. That was about 25 years ago. At that point my grandfather just had a few cows. But there is a barn that only needs a few small repairs to be usable again, a second barn made of steel that’s still good as new, and there’s an old tool shed going unused that I think might be a good candidate to be repurposed into a chicken coop! :D

At the very least I can use the support beams and roof of the structure to plot out a more sturdy, predator-proofed building and it should be big enough that if I decide 6 chickens just isn’t enough there’s room for more. Once the snow melts enough that it isn’t up to my waist I’ll be sure to post pictures of it to get everyone’s opinion on its potential for repurposing.

I’ve been reading through the various resources people have kindly linked for me. So much inspiration and great information! I’m so excited for spring. :celebrate:wee

Sounds good! You have the time to plan everything out, draw up some plans, & get everything constructed/modified & predator proofed before you ever get any birds, which makes infinitely more sense than what a lot of us did
