I'm a newbie, and got my chicks March 1, 2014. I have 4 Ameraucanas and 5 Barred Rock. I had 6 BR, but lost a little one a week after getting them. I'm fulfilling a dream I've had since I was a little girl living in a city. My husband retired 2 years ago and we bought 11 acres in Central Oregon. Our property is a work in progress....chickens first, and then the hogs my husband wants to raise. He was an FFA guy, so he's also my teacher.
I found out about BYChickens from Mother Earth News, which I've been reading for years. Glad to be part of this Chicky community!

Hello and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you will have a nice little flock with your new chicks, sorry about the one you lost.
