Hey everyone, my name is Ernst Jansen and new on this forum. Originally I’m from the Netherlands and living for the last 20 years abroad. After living in many different counties I decided to settle down in Laos.

I’m working and living at the botanical gardens of Luang Prabang where I’m running a permaculture farm. Which cave me the opportunity to live a total self sustainable lifestyle.

At our farm we are giving trainings to local farmers In order to provide more sustainable agriculture principles to mitigate slash and burn techniques. Deforestation is like in many other counties a big problem in Laos.

Beside our farmer trainings I’m running school garden projects in rural villages. This project is connected to a biodiversity awareness program. Knowledge is power and educating the children seems to work well on the longer run.

At our farm we are currently raising some local chicken breeds but looking to find some more fancy breeds with a higher egg production and more suitable for meat production. Hope I can find some breeders here on this forum located in Laos, Thailand or Vietnam.

Welcome! I hope that you are doing some breeding that involves local chickens and broody hens in Laos!! You are located in or very near to the place where chickens originated!!

Those of us who are abroad have unique opportunities and also responsibilities with preserving and improving local chickens!!

Whatever you do, please don’t reduce the role of the broody hen in the flock! They are crucial to raising poultry in a sustainable manner.
