Welcome! I hope that you are doing some breeding that involves local chickens and broody hens in Laos!! You are located in or very near to the place where chickens originated!!

Those of us who are abroad have unique opportunities and also responsibilities with preserving and improving local chickens!!

Whatever you do, please don’t reduce the role of the broody hen in the flock! They are crucial to raising poultry in a sustainable manner.

Thank you for your reply. Currently we had a mixed flock but I like to focus more on pure local breeds. That’s why I love to connect with breeders here on this forum.

Our general focus is protecting local flora and fauna and in our permaculture we focus only on local crops and Local farm animals. Sustainability is the main important focus point in our farm.

You should have some amazing breeds there!

Just being in South America, I am impressed with the local chickens as compared to hatchery chicks from back home. The hens are far better with broodiness and vigor in the chicks.

I hope you see the same beneficial traits or MORE in your location so close to the home of the Jungle Fowl. Chicken math indeed.....

I do see value in introducing Brahma genetics for heavier birds.

My dream is really to find some red Jungle Fowls.

There are indeed some very interesting other breeds here, but finding pure once is kind a difficult.

My mission is to get a few local breeds in order to preserve these. We are working with some Agricultural NGO’s who are sharing this mission.
