Greetings from MI (near Lansing)! I've been using BYC as a resource since we first got into chickens and decided it was time to join.
We have a flock of about 40 chickens (37 layers, 3 roosters) and have been keeping chickens for around 3 years now. We have a mixed flock that includes: Australorp, Maran, Olive Egger, Americauna, Orpington, Sussex, Jersey Giant, ISA brown, RIR, Leghorn, Faverolle, and Wyandotte.
This year we are branching out into meat birds (CX and Freedom Rangers). We have eaten a few of our Australorp and Orpington roos in the past and found the meat to be way better than what we buy in the store. We've also dabbled in ducks for meat in the past and enjoyed it.
Looking forward to learning more with the hope of branching out from selling eggs into other venues (selling meat birds, extra produce). We are a family of four and the kiddos and adults love the unique personality each of our chickens has. They've provided a ton of entertainment (and a few headaches)!
