Good morning everyone. Just wanted to say hello and let you know I think this is a wonderful forum! I am quickly getting addicted.

I am a 1st time chicken owner, so the whole experience is a new adventure for me.
We purchased 6 RIR chicks from our local feed store. Sadly I had 2 die within the 1st week and a half. Not sure what was wrong with them, but it was obvious they were much quieter than the rest. I saw no obvious signs which let to their passing. My chicken "friends" felt they may have had issue from the start.
Anyhow I now have 4 which are just over 4 weeks old and happy girls! Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site!

Hello and welcome from Ohio! You will love your RIRs. An excellent breed, and really great layers. I agree with your friends about your losses.....Sometimes there is just something that is "not quite right" with little chicks, and they just don't make it......
