Greetings from New Orleans!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Don't buy a pre-fab coop. Build one after thoroughly researching what chickens actually need in a coop.
Ensure you select breeds that are well suited to your climate.
Understand the perils of chicken math and make the coop and run twice as big as you think you'll need...

Welcome to BYC! Glad you are here with us!

I’m still somewhat of a newbie myself, so I can’t give much advice. Of course, one bit of good advice is to hang out here on BYC! I’ve learned so much that I didn’t even think to research.

The other bit of advice is just from my personal experience. Our first set of chickens were absolutely wonderful and fun, but we got them from someone who didn't really know much about them (may not have even been the breed or age they were claimed to be). So I guess my other bit of advice is to research a reputable breeder or source for your birds so you know what you’re getting. I do love all our birds, but we were definitely sold something other than what we thought we were getting.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow If you don't have your chicks yet, I'd head over to the Learning Center as there's all kinds of helpful articles there for folks learning how to raise chicks/chickens.

If you have them already, here's a great article about raising them for their first six weeks.

Oops, @N F C and I were typing at the same time. :)
