Hi! I am new to this community, and researching backyard chickens. My husband and I have been talking about getting hens for a few years now, and we are getting ready to make the leap in the next few months. For now I am reading about how to best prepare and care for hens in our backyard. We will involve our 6 year old in the care of the hens too.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I guess in California every season is good. Here we get a long winter and sometimes skip spring completely

Raising poultry is a great hobby for the entire family...kids and chickens seem to naturally go together.
