Pullets will do the darndest things when they first start laying. One of them is to lay for a week. Then stop for a month. Or they may lay soft shelled eggs. Or they may manufacture a large number of double yolkers in small eggs. They will lay them in the strangest spots. They may lay during the night.![]()
Your pullets will eventually sort out the kinks in their egg making machine. Make sure they are on good quality layer feed, and free choice grit.
My girls laid their first eggs at 16 weeks. They didn't lay again for one month. Not one single egg. I swore I had a bunch of egg eaters and threatened them on a daily basis with the crock pot. Well, they finally listened and started laying. Then they gave me all kind of strange eggs for about a month. Eventually everything sorted out and they are now doing fine.
