Hi Y'all!

We secured our coop last night and we're looking into getting a half-dozen chicks. This will be our first chicken adventure so we're exploring all of our options. Though Silkies seem very docile & great for kids, we're seeking avid egg-layers, tolerant of confinement along with Florida's summer heat. The search continues to bring us back to Minorca and White Star Hybrid. Any suggestions for these beginners? Great group, btw, lots of information & fellowship here, I look forward to reading more & getting to know its members.

Google the Henderson Chicken Chart for good breed information

Hello and :welcome

If you want to talk with more chicken owners in your area you could seek out the Florida thread in Where am I, where are you. They'll be able to give you advice about climate, etc.
As for breeds, I know sex-links are fantastic layers and don't mind confined space. We have a few and we live in the city.
Anyway, I hope you have many rewarding experiences raising your chickens, don't hesitate to ask any questions you might have, and enjoy the site! :D
