Greetings from the Jersey Shore

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Jerseys are very hardy birds. More feathers than the average breed, heavier, just sturdy all around. They will do just fine as long as your coop is large enough so there is space between their heads and the ceiling and you have good ventilation in your ceiling. About 1 sq foot of vent space per bird. Never close them in tight, lots of moisture is produced by breathing and pooping and this moisture needs to rise above the birds and out the vents. Birds roost low to the floor, moisture gets drawn out the roof.

Good luck and welcome to our BYC! :)

G’Day from down under JerzeyChick :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Personally, I have found the Topic of the Week articles a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group. These two might be of interest to you:
Topic of the week - Winter chicken keeping
Topic of the Week - Winter Egg Laying

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)
