Hello fellow chicken friends, I'm a newbie and still very much learning, and we have been slowing building our flock, so to date we have a Columbian Wyandotte,a red star both hens and a huge beautiful black rooster, looks more like a jersey giant but I was told he's a black star, but I'm not sure, then last week we went and bought five year old leghorns, my question is how long will it take for the leghorns to settle down and start laying, they eat a pile,of food and yet have not returned my generosity with eggs lol,we also have 3- two week old Easter eggers and have ordered 10 meat chicks , and five laying chicks and two turkeys all due to arrive the end of June, all day olds, so because this is all new to me anyone with helpful information, would,be greatly appreciated, and also I am looking for info on natural ,organic pesticides and parasite remedies, what herbs to grow that the chicken would benefit from thank you in advance, and its only, been a few weeks and I'm loving it,

After hens have been moved to a new home they generally lay an egg or two (eggs that were 'in process'), and then they will take a break which may be a matter of days or weeks - even sometimes months if they go into a molt. Be patient they will lay.
