well, here we go.
we've been wanting chickens for a while now, and have been reading and researching like lunatics for about 1 1/2. we have zero experience with raising chickens but are hoping for the best.
we are picking up the materials for the coop this week and are taking a peter pan approach to the rest. we plan on closing our eyes, thinking happy thoughts, and jumping right in. I hope we don't fall on our faces.

Well to be honest with ya the best way to become experts is to get some chicks of full grown chickens

But first you need a coop and a very secure one if you intend to keep them

Make sure there is plenty of roosting area, good feed and plenty of it....

Clean water every day

Feeding time at the zoo

Once the chicks go out side you need to keep them in a enclosed area or contained

See it's easy just need to cage everything

If you have any questions or concerns just ask and someone will answer you sooner or later

BYC has a really nice learning center and it's free

Thanks so much. We have a coop and run almost ready. We are finishing up our checklist of things needed for while they're inside making sure everything is set up and ready. Hoping to pick up our chicks later this week or at the beginning of next week.
We would also like to get a duckling, is there any reason we can't raise them together? Should they be separated or can they stay together if we buy them together? :/
