Hello! Last year we hatched 2 peahens, Elton and Elvis....just the other day Elton was hit by a van and sadly passed away. We are all in bits over it, none more than Elvis who now seems lost and constantly calling her her sister. She has been staying indoors with us and is more relaxed when we are with her but obviously I cannot keep that up.... Question is, will she get used to it eventually or will she need another friend ?

Thank you in advance for any advise.

How old were they? Peafowl reach sexual maturity at 3 years. When they hit that they wander for a mate, some will mate with turkeys. You can keep them with chickens for company, but they will look for their own. If you let them free range after 3 and they don't have a have a mate, they will wander. Males have a harem, so if you have a male you need a few females. If you have two males, they will compete, but only one will win and the loser will wander. But yes, they need company...be it chicken or other peafowl. They will seek a mate. There's a lot to these Peafowl.
