I used a metal cooler to build a similar unit - it sucked, it worked but it sucked. It was just too subject overall to temp swing and I STILL hated top opening bators, whether they're foam, cooler or ... in this case Grill.

I tossed it.

I really like the wine cooler and mini- fridge bators for their insulation and front opening and visibility.

That thing has all the problems of a foam bator - limited visibility, top opening AND no insulation and thus massive heat swings. Even a thermostat isn't going to easily over come the temp drops that thing is subject to.
