I get my baby chicks in a few weeks and I am so excited! Got my coop put together but they will be in a big box in my house for a while. Instead of lamp I ordered the EcoGlow 20 and was wondering if anyone has used it. Also when do I give grit. Thanks :)

I have not heard of that light, people always say to use a red bulb. Guess what? I'm new to chicks too! It's chick days at TSC! Do you know of a farm store called Orscheln? I might get them there instead........ So, I might be picking them up this Thursday because its supposed to be warm!

I've never tried the ecoglow, but have heard good things. I've always given small grit when I begin giving them anything other than their formulated feed. I've used coarse sand and parakeet grit. Some say the bird grit isn't good because of this or that, but my chicks have always been healthy and happy.

Hi, Sweetie Pie, and

! Great to have you here. I've not heard of that light either. I give grit at 2 -3 weeks - sprinkle it over their food like salting your food. Good luck to you!

I've seen mentiion of EcoGlow many times - people seem to be happy with it. I know it can be raised to a couple of levels as the chicks grow but, they have to squeeze under it so I would imagine it's is outgrown fairly early. You would switch to a brooder bulb and light then.
