Grit/Sand for chicks

If I give my chicks "treats", like meal worms, I think I am supposed to serve them grit.... sand for young chicks... Is PLAY SAND okay?

I usually don't give my tiny chicks any grit.. the chick starters have everything in there that chicks need. I normally don't give chicks any treats (unless they need some yogurt/boiled egg, etc) until they are at least 3 weeks old.. their little systems are so sensitive, I like them to get a good base on the starter and as long as everyone is doing fine I'll offer some treats after a few weeks. Just my humble opinion

Yes, you can give them sand. If they were with their mother they would be eating worms within the first 3 days.
