Looking for advice about grit sizes! Our 8 week old ladies have just gone outside and are lovin life. Our local feed store is put of grower size grit, however, and the bag I ordered on amazon won't arrive for a week. Is the pictured size too big for my girls? It was all they had locally.

What kind of Grit is that? It looks like Oyster Shells!
If so it shouldn't be offered till 16 weeks old.

This is the 2 different sizes of Granite Grit I have access to.
The Chick Grit I give at 2 weeks old, mixed into feed till 10 weeks old, at a ratio of 1 to 40 by weight.

The Poultry Grit I offer in a separate container after 7 weeks old.

That's likely too big for them. Is that Scratch & Peck brand? Their layer grit is pretty huge.

If it's just 1 week without grit, they'll do fine.

Thanks. It's not oyster shells but granite. We found some smaller pieces and picked them out but yes, this grit is huge!! I don't know the brand as it comes in an unmarked bag from the local feed and seed store. I assume the chicks will know not to eat a piece that's too large? :hmm

I ordered scratch and peck grower grit for my upsize after 6 weeks and it is huge. The exact same size that you showed that you have so you are exactly correct it is like rocks!
