Do the bags of quick creat have concreet in it? I was thinking that might not be good for them. I know you are not supposed to inhale it and it will really dry out your hands. Anyone have knowledge about this?

I wouldn't use it. I can't understand why anyone would want to cut corners on this: Go to the feed store and buy a bag of chicken grit and be done with it, One 50lb bag will last 10 years or longer and you won't have to worry about cementing your chicken's nostrils together.

I've never bought grit but I need to build up my run & was thinking after reading this post about a bag of grit & sand on top. Is grit expensive? I keep adding sand but it seems to disappear real fast. I know chickens eat it but wholly cow.

I can't answer that question any more since the last time I bought any was a 50lb bag in 1985. As far as your run is concerned have you considered using wood chips--not shavings but the stuff that comes out of a wood chipper. Assuming you can find them, they will last a long time and show be either cheap or free. Many municipalities use them for park paths. Should be a lot around as people chip up their Christmas trees.

Do NOT use quick-Crete! Lowe's has bags of All Purpose Sand, as previously mentioned. A fifty pound bag for less than 3 bucks.

I use the same stuff in kitty litter pans for dust baths under shelter during rainy weather.

Not Play sand, but All Purpose.
