How could no one have mentioned Shrimp and Grits?!?!
Anyway, McCord6: My emergency chick ration is scrambled eggs with equal parts oatmeal and cornmeal, ground really finely. My 23 chicks need about 1-2 eggs and a handful of each grain. It's super easy, probably stuff you have in the house, and will get them by for a day or two.
I am from the north and we ate grits 3-4 times as week as a hot breakfast food. Always w/ butter and black pepper.
Now, I live in the south and grits are usually made w/ a couple of spoonfuls of yellow cheese stirred in and melted towards the end of cooking time. It just enriches the flavor.
I must have my grits w/ a pat of melted butter on top and black pepper (alongside toast). Also good w/ bacon. I like to crumble the bacon and stir it in. Mmm...mmm good.
