I went to the store yesterday to buy cat food (trapping feral cats... not my own.) and thought I wuld pick up some chickie treats as well. Got the cabbage for a tetherball... but when I got to the popcorn aisle I stopped short.

The whole wall had boxes of microwave popcorn! The only container of normal popcorn was on the bottom shelf... for $6.00 dollars!

Now I know why I don't like that grocery store! High prices, and the store is set up to make you wander for hours looking for what you need... causing you to buy whatever you see on the way. Unfortunately it is the only one near enough to my work tha I can run in on my lunch hour. Needless to say they will not have popcorn today!

And what's worse, stores like WM change their products around and make us look and look, and what do people do, and they know its gonna happen . . .pick up this and that while "we are here". We wouldn't do that if they would leave things where they were and not make us wander. I hate WM and stores who pull the same shenanigans. Especially since I read the post about WM and the other chain stores cutting up clothes and throwing them away instead of donating. . .

I buy our popcorn in 30 lb bags from Sam's Club for $7.

I agree...the world has gone mad. Very few of us even blink as products change and we are "herded" towards accepting something else. Did you know microwave popcorn has diecetyl in it? The fumes of the "butter" can cause cancer.

Microwaving food changes the complex molecular chains in an unhealthy way, making an unhealthy modification to the food or liquid cooked/heated in one. I hate that because I used to think it was so neat for leftovers. No more . I have found a use for mine tho. It is a great plate-bowl-cup-warmer and since it is part of the range hood, I was not tossing it out anyway.

WW,

Believe it or not, it's not the stores fault. My wife used to manage a popular shoe store and their policy was that all old model and discontinued shoes had to be cut up and thrown away. She was able to keep a few for her self but not many. The regional manager would sometimes come by to make sure they were destroyed. She also worked for years for Procter and Gamble and you can't believe how much they throw away. Just think of all the company's they own.

My Sams club sells a 50 pound bag of popcorn. So there is plenty for us and the chickens! Did you read the thread that says you can feed it to them unpopped too?

My DH wanted a Whirly Pop for Christmas. Well he didn't get one so last week we went and bought one. It makes great tasting popcorn. If you like pc it is a neat little popper. We got ours at Bed Bath and Beyond for 19.99.

I tried to grow my own popcorn this year..
and it was doing good, until my greedy little hens got ahold of it....

Everyone seems to think that WM has great prices and I often wonder if they even check other places because the only great prices I see are on the sale items. Everything is higher at ours
