Groovy Pen Security.

We woke Sunday morning to see that 10 week old Groovy had been carried over the rainbow bridge in the arms of a fox. (or possum?) She was a bell bottom feather legged Barred-Rock Bantam. The other 14 chicks were not harmed. The predator walked right into my Fort Knox because .... we accidentally forgot to close the gate. We rarely ever forget and have not had a problem with predators in 15 years or more.

We have too much shade for a solar door system. I do not want to spend $ 400, and have seen seem sketchy reviews on some of the store made. I have electricity and the capacity to build my own system has anyone done this? Til I get this figured out I have resorted to setting a alarm on my phone to remind me.

I don't have any advice for making your own electric door but I am sorry for your loss!

I don't close my coop pop doors but I do have electric wire around my coops and pens and so far nothing has gotten through it.

That really sucks. It's so easy to forget when you do it day in and day out.
I would be afraid of an automated door not closing.
