Gross question about deceased dog

What a terrible thing to find! So sad... I would put my money on the train. An impact from a train can scatter body parts and depending on how the dog was hit he could have rolled under the train car before rolling to the side of the tracks, causing more than one point of impact. As gruesome as the injuries are, sometimes there is amazingly little blood loss or gore around the body in train impacts. And while it seems hard to believe that a healthy, uninjured dog would not move out of the way in time it does happen. Maybe the dog was deaf and facing away from the train and didn't hear it coming. Maybe he was so focused on chasing another animal across the tracks that he didn't notice the oncoming train. Maybe he was just such a trusting soul that he somehow didn't realize the giant thundering thing coming towards him wouldn't just stop or go around him.

I too would report it to animal control. In many places, they are the ones who are going to deal with cleaning up the mess and they may be able to spot red flags that could help differentiate between a hit by train death or a mutilation dumped by the tracks.

There may have been something on the tracks in the way of food, or even another dead animal that the dog was going after and hit by the train. I don't know that there is really a whole lot you can do about it, other than to say a prayer that that dog has a very special place in heaven to play. I'm not a real religous person, but when I see or hear about something like that its what I do. It makes me feel somewhat better.

How sad... I've seen the same thing, where a dog had been hit by a train and had been decapitated. The head was near the body, however.

Report it! I dont think a train would just clip the head off....there would have been more blunt trauma...
Never know though... but report it just to be safe..
Where was the head?? Was it still there?? Was it smooshed??
