I have dirt in my coop where i built it so do i need to add anything to it

This is similar to my question. I have mulch where we just put our new coop. Should I remove that to reveal the dirt below?

Maybe, so the birds can dust bathe themselves. It keeps mites off them.

No, they will like playing in the mulch.

Unless the mulch is many feet thick they will find the dirt! Chickens are fully capable of joyfully digging a hole to China in just about anything but cement lol!

Ok thank you! I might just thin it out a little then. We have yet to get chicks but are looking into australorpes. We're new at all of this do trying to prep as much beforehand as possible. thanks for the advice.

Is it the actual coop? Then things can dig under but otherwise chickens love the dirt. And australorps are great. Mine is a coop chicken and doesnt like the cold but thats because shes spoiled and watched too much tv when she was in the brooder.she loves people and is in the middle of the pecking order. The only thing is if you get a lot od them you probably womt be able to tell them apart. Youre smart for trying to do everying before. Good Luck!
