Weasels are fairly large animals, so I don't think they could go through 1/2" HWC.

I would not call them fairly large. For size reference, this is a Short-tailed Weasel (aka American Ermine) carrying a deer mouse (in my yard).

Just to let everyone know….
Rats don’t care if you have a 2’ apron. They will tunnel under it. Ask me how I know.
I finally had to lay down a vinyl coated hardware cloth floor and firmly attach it every few inches with steel zip ties. Then I set 4 snap traps. Got a dozen big rats. Fixed the infestation. But I know they’ll be back…
