We haven't wasted an egg shell here in years. We dry them and smash into small pieces, not into a powder. The flock prefers the pieces much better and has the ability to be absorbed by the hens much better.
I don't have any egg eaters, and the hens don't realize their egg shells. They do prefer them over the oyster shells.
