Growing a horses mane?

Tail bags are a waste of money in my opinion. If you are showing and the tail drags on the ground then you have to keep it up. Keep it free of sticks, rats and burrs. Massaging coconut oil through the tail before you work on it will cut the job in half. Let the tail flow freely to do it's job.
Watch the neck cover. They can rub and break off the top hairs.

Okay, thank you! I don't show, or do any of that so I won't worry about it then. I will watch the neck cover too! Thank you!

So, my horse is an Andalusian cross so I have to actively trim his tail or else it grows too long. His mum has a very long mane and is very pretty. HOWEVER, my friend’s horse is an appendix with a skimpy mane and tail. How she got it to grow out was brushing and showsheening daily. It worked for her.

The biggest thing is keeping it clean and tangle free without just ripping through it. Genetics play a big role but I love cowboy magic. It really helped get the tangles out without damage. I also really liked brushes called "wet brushes" they're meant for humans but really good about not breaking the hair. The one thing I don't like about it is that its a synthetic product so it can attract dirt.

Coconut oil is really good for manes but can be a pain to use in the winter. Keeping it in thick braids can help too.

Thank you! I will look into wet brushes!

I usually keep my horses/ponies mane shorter since we don’t ride everyday. In my opinion, you will have to brush her mane/tail out at least once a day to keep it growing in a fashionable way. There’s a higher chance of her mane to get dirty and muddy (especially in WA) so you will probably have to wash it frequently.

Looks like you've got a good base to work with! You may want to start braiding her mane now. The key is to not make the base too tight (so as not to rip the roots) and not to neglect them for too long.

I've seen Friesian people use this brand Espana Silk (espanaproducts.com) and seem to like it. I've personally never used it.

You can also purchase mane bags.

I absolutely love MTG. It definitely grows hair back fast. I'm not sure how using it on a mane would work though.

Cowboy Magic is also amazing. Love all their products. I use Show Sheen for de-tangling manes and tails.

Can't help further than that. I pull and band manes eventually, so I've never tried to grow one out.
