Yep the roots can get kinda hairy looking but still white, not black.Does anyone know if it's normal for wheat seed sprouts to have hairy stuff on the roots? I'm not sure if its just part of the roots or mold. It looks fine otherwise.![]()

Does anyone know if its okay to feed fodder to your chickens if it has a little mold on it here and there?
Peeps - I would take the fodder that had molt on it, toss it, and give them the rest. : )

I forgot to mention... if there is not a lot of mold, I'll use the bleach soak. If mold has gotten throughout the entire pad of growing fodder, I cut the grass into the feed buckets and mix it in with the fermented grains. I trim it like 1/2 inch at a time until I get down to the molding seeds, then I toss the rest. Makes me mad when that happens but I salvage what I can.I have poured bleach directly on the fodder with mold, let it sit for 30 minutes or so, rinse really really well, and feed it out.
SHOOT, those look good to me NOW!Just thought I would show y'all my dinner time feed bucket. Like I said, I try to make the evening feed very interesting as I want them to fill up before going to bed!
This one has shredded carrots, sprouts, fermented grains, beet pulp and chunks of fried liver.
This next one has a lot of fodder clipped into it. It's much easier to stir in when its clipped short (1/2" or so). It also has milo sprouts which I've kept long enough to start greening up and dry cat food... among lots of other things.
So, what do you think? If you were a chicken, would these look good to you?
On the liver, do you thoroughly cook it and then cut into chunks? Has anyone "ground" liver for their chickens?Just thought I would show y'all my dinner time feed bucket. Like I said, I try to make the evening feed very interesting as I want them to fill up before going to bed!
