Growing fodder for chickens

Also Ditto's were some sweet pants. I remember my old saddle seat Ditto's very fondly.
Really? Well that's cool ;-)

REPLYING TO MY OWN REPLY... I originally read your post 'icbleu' from my phone with tiny fonts, so I thought you said Ditto's were some sweet PLANTS. I had no idea what you meant by the old saddle seat. Hahahaha...I know Ditto PANTS very well. They were pretty hot! I recall that the Ditto's came in to fashion after the bell bottom hip-huggers, which I also Loved!

Ok thank you very much! I think I will try plain bird seed first because I have a bunch of it I can get for free that was left over from a church craft project. Does it matter what kind of bird seed?
Also for trays I have some plastic medical trays. They are about 8 by 12 inches I could drill holes in. And I have some plain Rubbermaid containers that are kinda big. Would those both work?

I have an ice pick I used to poke holes in the bottom of the trays I am using. I wouldn't get too huge if you are planning on carrying the whole tray. They get very heavy even if they are only dish pan sized.
Just my opinion.

Okay, so here is what I am using for my sprouting operation. The wooden stand is what I use at rabbit shows to hold my carry cages. If it works as well as I think it will I am going to spray it with that Never Wet stuff we have at work.
I am using dish pans I bought at the dollar store and stabbed with an ice pick. They set on the stand perfectly and I am putting a row on the stand and a row underneath. The trays are staged in the laundry room and there is a floor drain that leads outside to our trees.
Right now I am sprouting buckwheat, mung, teff, and corn. For the teff, because the individual grains are so small, I am using these plant trays from work and lining them with coffee filters. The teff needs the most tending as it is the finest seed.
I water morning and evening and set three trays a day on what is currently a 7 day rotation so have 21 trays at some stage all the time. My critter sitter got confused and fed all of my trays in one day so I currently starting over. I will be introducing alfalfa, chicory, trefoil, and clover after my next paycheck. I am buying from Peaceful Valley Farm Supply as all of their stuff is non-GMO and they are close enough that orders arrive the next day.

I am also going to make a bunch of sprouting bags to fit into the project some place.
