Growing fodder for chickens

I did contact them weeks ago but never got a reply. Important question: one of our family members is coeliac disease and cannot have gluten under any circumstances. Barley has gluten, would this be transferred into the eggs of fowl that eat it?

I'm thinking I may have to use a box fridge to keep the barley cool enough to sprout at a decent speed. The temperature here is usually about 35 degrees Celsius.

Box fridge? Is that just a regular refrigerator? Maybe turned down, or rather UP, so it won't be so cold?

It is a small, short rectangular fridge which can run on gas - we call them box fridges. I'm pretty sure that you can change the temp but I'll have to double-check. The reason I mentioned this is because I'm in the tropics and don't want the fodder going mouldy. I read the ideal temp is 70 degrees F, which is about 21 degrees Celsius.

I haven't tried barley but my chickens eat dry oats right out of the bag. I would think they will eat barley. When they are foraging they are eating dry seeds.

Recently I dug out some rich soil from the chicken run for my basil, and guess what sprouted up? Barley seeds from the mixed grain scratch! I don't think I'll have any trouble with fodder, if chicken food grows than horse feed should too.

Nice! It's amazing how sometimes things work without our help!
