Growing fodder for chickens

Pics
whew! Ok, I only left it outside for about 45 mins. So..I will be careful not to overspray..It was a pretty white fuzzy thing going on in there. Didn't look black at all, but mold can start out white, I think.. I'm not too worried yet. But it would be sad if it came back. I will leave it in my cool room. It's one that is coming along pretty good.

You should see my green in my day 5 one!

I'm getting some white fuzzies now, too. For sure it isn't root fuzzy ... it is some kind of spore fuzzy. Not too much of it showing between the sprouts that are sticking up out of the flat, but it has me wondering what's going on below the surface. So far it smells nice ... no mildew smell at all, and everything looks firm and juicy. But how do I know if it is safe to feed the birds?

We have put the flats out for more greening ... it is sunny but cool today.

Got so excited over this i went out Sat to the feed store got the wheat and sunflower seeds ..$2 for 5 lb wheat..
80 cents for a lb of sunflower seeds
Free.old flats from Lowes and im on my way! .
Thats all i spent to make this fodder and used about 1/2 a lb for these 2 flats.

Pic is today Day 5--- Been cloudy the whole week so no sun in the windows dont know if it should be bigger but it couldnt be more simple!
Its now holding together on its own
Flats are the kind that hold pots but worked out well that way i can give just what mine need and not disrupt the whole flat just a section at a time
.
I really like the clear totes someone on here used. See the roots is great

I don't feed mold. Some do. Is it safe? Their chickens don't fall over dead, but I'm still not comfortable doing it.

I am not seeing mold..like the black stuff..you mean some people do feet that to the birds? I can see it being ok for a chicken, but not for the large animals like goats, cows, horses. But, that being said, I don't want to feed mold to my girls/chickens either! I am not seeing any more fuzzies after rinsing, and leaving the paper towel off today. Starting to see green in it now.
Here's is a picture of my 5 day out wheat.
