I recently started sprouting barley seeds to use as supplemental greens for my chickens. So far, they just love it!

I do have one question for those of you who are more experienced in sprouting. Do flies & other insects just seem to hang around a lot? When I first started, I was sprouting the barley outdoors in the shade. Lots & lots of flies hanging around. We had a few cool nights, so I brought the sprouts inside. Then I had some other small flying insect all over the place.

    Has anyone had this problem?

In my area it's the time of the year where the big flies like to hang around and come into the house more so then any other time of the year. Yesterday I cough a few "drinking" the water from the seeds I was soaking that day.
