In the Brooder
I'm with you... I've been searching for a grainery and or a cereal grower in my area that carries or grows organic..no luck at all. Honestly I think of I were able to find one, buying the pre mixed and bagged feed would be a better price per LB, those feed producers get a hefty bulk discount it appears. The best route I'm coming to see is grow what you can, but get the large 1 and 2 ton totes. Brings the cost down from .70 and .60 LB for Nature's Best and Country organics 50 and 40 LB bags respectively, down to about .50 and .40 cents a LB for 1 and 2 ton totes respectively. I could handle a 1 ton tote on my own and use it in about 1.5 months but I'd love to connect with other flock owners in my area and do a co-op buy for a 2 ton. Someone that does an organic poultry operation not far from me said they custom order their feed , from a smaller operation feed dist. No name brand = less cost.I’m still shocked organic feed costs that much!
I paid about that for feed yesterday...but I bought 150 lbs!
I'd have to get mine tested though, worth the $35 to be sure your building a partnership that you can trust.
