I'm having 1 of the young chickens that is going to lay one of these days that started today with sounds that remind me more to '' growling '' as if she indeed has an egg and is not happy about yet I remember the sound my chickens had in their breathing too when they were ill ..
and another one when I just started with the same rattle growl who was perfectly healthy or in other words did not show any symptoms of being sick at all ,
this chicken is acting the same , close to laying , looking bright eyes , fluffy bums and eating still just normal , acting , interacting perfectly fine ...

did anyone else notice some breeds like the RIR for example to growl or sound like rattling when it was not sick ?? I mean is this just talk / complain from the chicken or is she sick in the end ? I do not know because the chicken that used to make those sounds died when she got eggbound , she was too young to lay ( fingertest ! ) and died from it , any other issues were not even mentioned as she seemed to be just fine , also in the eyes of the vet that time .
I'm just wondering wether or not chickens also have a certain talk sometimes that is quite similar to the chicken with the respitory deseases so if anyone has a hen like that which I hope IF not ill ofcourse, do please let me know , these sounds I have only experienced with my RIReds and not in any other breeds yet , besides the old flock that died from a respitory desease ! they showed clear signs of being ill , they caughed , sneezed , rattled constantly but this one does not have it like constantly but since today often enough to know that " something changed " , good or bad is what I can not tell ... but I want to be fast enough to go over to treatment of the flock if I know more . She got for all certainty now already her seperate area , just in case but she s still doing just fine ? (plus it sure would not hurt to learn more about their behaviors I think )she does not cough , sneeze , her eyes are as bright as the day I bought her , she eats (very) well , she moves and scratches a lot and at this moment she is even taking a dustbath and enjoying some sun ?
Kind regards from myself and in this case : growl from redfacy

It appears from your description that Redfacy is in good health and just mumbling about the weather , perhaps.
hi !
first of all I do thank you for giving your idea here because this chicken is in all other ways acting as usual and now she is seperated and even lives indoors haha , she has been real fun honestly ! just had some leftovers and first I wanted to just go to the back but she was already " waiting " and given the fact she is alone with us and isolated I think I should be spoiling her somewhat . I find it weird because none of all other chickenbreeds I have or had did make sounds like this one , she also makes the typical happy sounds and that sound she is like begging or so ( meep meep on that asking tone :D ) , noticed that she indeed is gonna have to lay because she is ' confused ' , does not know wether or not she should be sitting down or standing up for laying and she is scratching the hay , duffles herself in but after a few minutes gives it up , so I honestly hope she will manage with the egg ( felt at the bum and it is swollen a bit + I think I could feel an egg but not sure ) each time she goes to sit she has that growling or rattling sound so I really believe that it is in some way indeed mumbling like " why does that have to happen to me pfff my big sisters told me about it , no way I will keep up with that on a daily basis ! how do they do that grrr ! " when she does not go to sit she is again happy redfacy all the time ! and I went to check regular on her breathing but it does not rattle and still have not heard her sneeze once , no coughing either , weird girl she is but I think she suits me LOL :p , kind regards !
